State Comptroller advises strengthening National Security CouncilBy Aluf Benn, Haaretz Correspondent State Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss recommended on Wednesday a "significant strengthening" in the standing of the National Security Council in the Prime Minister's Office. Such a move would urgently improving the orderly function of the body in the early stages of the decision-making process on national security matters. A special comptroller's report on the NSC released Wednesday proffered a number of suggestions: moving the office from its current location in Ramat Hasharon to the Prime Minister's Bureau in Jerusalem; positioning the NSC director among the prime minister's close circle of advisors; involving the NSC as a central decision-making body on national security issues; implementing organizational changes in the NSC that would ease its operations; updating the legal framework granting the NSC authority and delineating its functions. Lindenstrauss said the weakness of the NSC harms the quality of the decision-making process. |
