Foreign Min. to present report on Lebanon air strike that killed UN forcesBy The Associated Press Israel will release its findings Thursday about the killing of four United Nations peacekeepers in an Israel Air Force strike on July 25 in Lebanon. The report will be given to diplomats of Canada, China, Finland and Austria, which each had a soldier killed in the strike, Foreign Ministry spokesman Mark Regev said. He would not give details on the report. Israel has expressed regret for the bombing and said it does not target UN personnel. UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan had said that the attack on the observation post in the Lebanese town Khiam was "apparently deliberate." Before the air strike, UN observers in Lebanon had telephoned the Israel Defense Forces 10 times in six hours to ask it to stop shelling near their position, the UN said. |
