Government employment offices throughout the country will be closed today as part of an ongoing strike which has already lasted three straight working days.
As an expression of solidarity with their civil servant colleagues, income tax officials will carry out a four-hour work stoppage. Income tax officials and income tax offices will be closed to the public between 9 A.M. and 1 P.M., a move being backed by the Histadrut labor federation.
Employment services employees have been on strike since last Tuesday, demanding a renegotiation of their contract with the state. Union head Ariel Ya'akobi, says there had been some progress in recent days in the negotiations with Finance Ministry officials, but the treasury continues to demand that the new contract be implemented alongside a new employment program.
The treasury would like to see the Orot employment program implemented throughout the country, as opposed to the original plan of applying it to only four areas. Employment officials are concerned this would undermine their position as the program is scheduled to utilize private companies in running Orot throughout the country.
