Not a word about Tiger, I promise. Well, almost no word - other that to quote John Daly, no stranger himself to seeing his personal life under the world's microscope. Big John said he'd no interest in what happened outside Woods's home in the earlier hours of last Friday: "I don't really care what happened between Tiger and ... whatever happened. I'm just glad he's OK. We need him to keep things going, the way the economy is. Tiger's the biggest asset the tour's had in a long, long time."

Amir Khan has been made a clear favorite by British bookmakers in tomorrow night's WBA light-welterweight title fight against Dmitry Salita in Newcastle, England, but he is not resting on his laurels. "I know what people say, that it's tougher to keep hold of a title than to win one," the 22-year-old said yesterday. "I've trained like a challenger even though I'm the champion. I will go in like a challenger and fight like a challenger." Of his Orthodox Jewish opponent Khan said, "He's tough and doesn't give up, he's got a big heart in the ring." Salita replied simply by saying: "That beautiful WBA belt belongs to me." (Haaretz Sports Staff and Agencies)

In the Israel Softball Association's Babe Gillett Memorial Fall Tournament final on Sunday at Kibbutz Gezer, Ziontours broke Penticon's seven-championship reign with a solid 7-2 win. Yarone Ben Israel pitched a great game, outdueling Ami Baran. Ziontours never trailed, taking a 2-0 lead in the second inning on doubles by Yarone and Yaniv Rosenfeld, who was 4-4 on the night, and added two more in the third. Up 4-1 in the fourth, Alon Leichman followed singles by Gil Siegel and Tom Haskell with a towering three-run home run coup de grace. Penticon rallied in the fifth, but the infield tandem of shortstop Elinatan Ben Israel and second baseman Rosenfeld, who had a hand in 11 outs, shut the door with several nice plays. The game ended dramatically on a diving catch by centerfielder Leichman. (Micah Winston)
