"Unfortunately Leftfield will not be able to perform at the Heineken Music Conference on the 31st August due to unforeseen production problems," the duo wrote on the Facebook fan page dedicated to their current tour.
Meanwhile, on the duo's official Facebook page they published a letter sent to them by the organization Boycott Israel calling for them to "postpone your planned concert in Israel this summer, indefinitely."
The letter, scanned and posted on their page, stated that in light of Israel's deadly raid on the Gaza flotilla in May, they urged the musicians to take a stand and protest Israel's actions by cancelling the show.
"Performing in Israel today means crossing an international picket line," the letter said, adding that, "your visit here will be construed as a vote of confidence in Israel's oppressive policies."
In their cancelation statement the group made no reference to the letter, despite the fact that they had made it public by posting it on their Facebook page.
Leftfiled joined a growing list of artists and musicians who have recently cancelled their shows in Israel due to political reasons, among others were Elvis Costello, The Pixies, Jill Scott Heron, Santana, The Klaxons and the Gorillaz Sound System.

But do they think that Torah Jews really care?
doesnt surprise me, considering their most known album was called "leftism". if you want to damage your hearing, go to their live concert so israelis are lucky in a way. )) exteremely loud and overrated.
The cowardice of the British in the face of an advancing Islam. The day will come when these cowards will realise the stupidity of their actions. What a sad generation there is in Britain.
preferring to betray their fans rather than confront bullies with anti Israeli agenda as Johnny Rotten did. They are even publicly bragging the list of victims who obediently canceled shows in Israel as a sign of submission to their pressure and hate mails! But why not? They deserve it for taking side with Palestinian baby killers.
No one is submitting to hate mails. People are just starting to wake up to the realities! Johnny Rotten is rotten!
Why doesn't Haaretz publish the long list of performers who haven't boycotted Israel this year? You talk about the "growing list of artists and musicians" who are joined the list. But what about the enormous amount of REAL talent which is visiting Israel this summer? Why not mention all the amazing performers in the fields of Opera, Jazz, Classical Music, Ballet and also pop/rock who have and are scheduled to come? The pathetic list of D-listers mentioned in your article has only one artist of real talent - Santana. Elvis Costello - well, perhaps 30 years ago but now? And the rest, The Pixies & Co - is that some kind of a joke? For every one that boycotts, we get about 100 top performers/groups so let's see a little honesty on this subject from Haaretz for a change.
The boycott did not really start until after the 5/31 flotilla massacre. Since then, Missy Elliot performed and there were articles in Haaretz about her performance. What other "REAL talent" came after the massacre?
Simple and clear no other county in the world is being boycotted while being in a conflict with other people and countries!! China occupies Tibet for instance and is a dictatorship but nobody has a problem with that. Nor does one call for a boycot of the US or the UK for what happens in Iraq or Afghanistan. Why? Because it is not in their interest to boycot US and UK universities!! So boycotting Israel has nothing to do with international law but is just a lithmus test of ones true anti semitic face!! Haaretz should be much braver about this and confront anti semites!!
ever heard of a country called south africa? boycotted and embargoed for years without even killing anyone?
not that the label means anything any more
I see that Haaretz is still "flogging" this story after yet another group that no one has heard of decides to "boycott" us because of "Israel's oppressive policies". First of all if the group wants to boycott because of political ideology - then that is their right. But don't play around with stupid notices on Facebook - we all know that you have been terrorized into this action. Secondly, the group listed as having boycotted Israel contains only two performers of any merit - Santana and Elvis Costello (though I wouldn't pay 5 shekels to see the latter). Why doesn't Haaretz mention the enormous amount of top artists who have chosen to appear in Israel this summer - not only pop stars (why are they so important?). Just look at the adverts for these performances - Ballet, Opera, Jazz and Music of every form - to see that we have been deluged by an amazing wave of talent over the past few months. Name any country of Israel's size that can attract so many varied cultural activities! My only problem is finding the cash to pay for the tickets. In short, yes there are groups/individuals who will boycott but they are a TINY minority in comparison to the performers who have come and are scheduled to come. In future it would be refreshing if Haaretz would present a more honest and balanced picture of this story and list the artists/groups who have come for our enjoyment. Or does Haaretz think that they are traitors to break the boycott on Israel?
Leftfield, never heard of them. Another group that no one has ever heard of trying to get some publicity
Leftfield are aboslutely awesome!
It was posted in the "fan photos" section by one of their fans.
I gave my two ratings on talkbacks below and they do not record. My guess is that these are bs and just another way for media to try to sway public opinion. Yuck!!
Like a rapist who complains when his victim cuts off his scrote. He cries that she is so vicious, and those around him somehow find the victim to be the victimizer. In the end, the truth will survive and shine through. We will remember all those who aid and abet terrorism. Leftfield is on that list of collaborators.
Maybe they should change their name to Too-Far-To-The-Leftfield....
The fact that this group is not coming to Israel is inconsequential. if you have listened to their music you know that it is not a big loss. The troubling part is to see people, such as Noa Abend and company who are exhibiting such self-hatred. It is these self-righteous people who cause the biggest damage to Jews around the world and Israel in particular.
A leading Israeli dairy company Tara dairy, moved its factories from the occupied Golan Heights into Israel and will be allowed to market its produce in the West Bank, the National Dignity Fund announced Thursday.President Mahmoud Abbas, whose government led by Salam Fayyad started the fund, in April banned the sale or purchase of settlement produce in the West Bank, and the deadline to clear shelves of settlement goods is 31 July. Fund director Omer Qabaha said the move by
The Tara dairy plant has been located at 116 Yigal Allon Street since it was established in 1942. I've worked in the neighborhood off and on since the 1970s, and it was always there. Who gives you your information-- Baghdad Bob?
The "Production problems" they are having may be the production of testosterone in their bodies. Boycotts work both ways. I hope that those supporting Israel remember those who work against the State.
If the group wants to cancel due to political thought problems then say so. If the problem is really technical then all the Israeli bashers need to accept the decision. In the meantime the 70's group Bony M is playing in Ramallah but the group has been asked to not sing on one their best known hits. "By the river of Babylon" as it has verses referring to Israel. What an interesting time and world we live in. Boycotting Israel and those groups playing in Arab lands need to censor their music. And all my life I have been told that the Jews want to control the world. Seems they are wrong. The Arabs want to take and control.
So, I need to buy a new car. It is between a Cadillac Escalade and a UK made Land Rover. It's a $101,000 purchase. That should account for about 2000 Leftfield ticket sales. So, I say we are even.
i'm on the phone with a rich saudi guy, he's buying 10 Land-rovers. seriously though: Turkey for instance has been witnessing a mass influx of arab tourism, israelis are boycotting turkey and are happy about the millions turkey has lost, but they didn't take into account the doubling of Turkish touristic profits in the last couple of years.
Wait... what? Because Leftfield clearly feel that they shouldn't visit Israel, you're going to punish a company that is connected to them only by nationality? I'm struggling to see how this will affect Leftfield... unless they moonlight at Solihull :S
I am an ex pat. I am not surprised by the British behaviour. Who wants these 'Toe Rags'. Good Old British Expression.
If British behaviour is so bad why don't you give up your British citizenship?
Why should I? It's handy.
I would love to see the tour dates for these eggheads along with elvis costello and other weasels...what other countries might they boycott? Russia? USA? Canada? France? Italy? How about the UK itself for killing innocent afghans? well?
Great news, lets hope the international cultural and political boycot of Israel continues.
It is the artists loss and they will hang their head in shame....when they look back on this era. they are forging their lot with known terror groups.
The jew haters are out in force, and Adam, I think you're mentally ill.
what a sad accusation. anyone an israeli doesnt like is an anti semite- so sad
This has been the worst propaganda disaster in decades for Israel. It has really been the straw that broke the camels back. One group after the other is concelling and the world has seen what Israel's brutality entails. People of conscience are responding and their numbers are growing, which hopefully will force the situation to change.
yet despite the professional Israel-hater "Yaakov" Sullivan's wishes, Israel is getting a record number of tourists this year, its economy successfully withstood the downturn and will probably get a lot more tourists next year. I'm sorry but international acts like Elton John cannot be compared to small fishes like Leftfield.
elton john has far less influence in music circles than santana or the pixies. apartheid is being punished it seems
