The Muslim Brotherhood: A pragmatic bunch

In the first round of voting, the secular block was split between three candidates who, together, constituted a plurality of votes which was larger than 50%. But Morsi and Shafik each, individually, received more votes. So they were the anointed two candidates for the final "run off" election. One result of this process is that the Muslim Brotherhood can no longer claim that they represent the majority of the Egyptians because the facts speak for themselves, against them. Moreover, Morsi as president has been very careful, because he knows that the majority of Egyptians do not support the Brotherhood's agenda. As far as Israel is concerned, there is no practical policy for any Egyptian government to follow other than to continue to maintain the Peace Treaty with Israel. The only real alternative to that is a war in which Israel would occupy the Sinai again and even advance further into Egyptian territory. This would be detrimental to the Egyptian economy, the credibility of any Egyptian government, and most significantly, any hopes of reform or improvement of the situation there...
