The program said "The Kenny Garrett Quintet," but there were only four musicians onstage. It turns out that drummer Marcus Baylor did not board the plane to Israel "for reasons we will not elaborate on here," as Eli Degibri, the artistic director of the Red Sea Jazz Festival, said just before inviting Garrett to come on stage.

I wasn't there, so I cannot say that Craig Adams did not have an off night in Eilat. Still the review makes me wonder if Shalev knows what he is talking about. Adam's performances are something that is becoming rare in jazz today: pure joy! My advice to Ben Shalev, listen with your heart, not your head. You'll live longer. What a difference it would make to come to shul on the Yamim Noaraim one year and hear something other than the incessant droning on of a hazzan who pleases no one but himself. Someone should commission Adams to write the music: that would bring back shul attendance in the States.
thank you
