It is a veritable miracle that the world has not to date been blown up. There is a logic to reality inherent in nature and culture, but the big wigs, the accumulators of political and economic power have no clue how this logic is connected to justice and peace---they suffer from a bad case of myopia. If one asks what characterizes the status of the world today, the answer is most likely to be that the world is at war via its human component with itself. U.S. domestic and foreign policy centers on values that are antithetical to peace and justice. Marx surmised that the logic of reality leading to positive change is the clash of opposites----if he is correct then positive change today equals total destruction. I agree with those who say that cultures should not be classified as opposites but as complements of one another comprising a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts. Our leaders are not able to grasp the big picture. If the present trend in world political and economic policy, so much driven by men of limited understanding, continues unchecked the probability of a nuclear conflagration will increase exponentially. Why it has not happened already is a miracle.
