Former U.S president Bill Clinton called on Israelis last night to "be ready" if "a miracle" yet occurs and the opportunity for peace presents itself again. "Don't give up and don't give in," a visibly emotional Clinton said at a dinner in Tel Aviv marking his award of an honorary doctorate by Tel Aviv University and the inauguration of the Saban Center for American Studies at the university. Clinton said the intifada violence had "not changed the fundamental reality... We have the outlines of a reasonable proposal."
