The state stands to rake in NIS 550 billion by 2040 from exploiting the country’s oil and gas reserves, the Finance Ministry’s accountant general, Michal Abadi-Boiangiu, said yesterday.
The money would come in the form of royalties, taxes and other fees.
“We wanted to be sure we knew how to estimate the sums the state would be receiving and also oversee its collection,” she said. Most of Israel’s oil and gas reserves are off the Mediterranean coast.
The Finance Ministry’s figure does not include the Leviathan gas exploration site in the Mediterranean.
