MK demands full price controls on diesel fuel
Price of fuel jumps by tens of percentage points since the ministry stopped exercising full price control, MKs were informed during the committee's meeting Tuesday.
Knesset Economics Committee chairman MK Carmel Shama-Hacohen called on the National Infrastructure Ministry to bring diesel fuel back under full price control by the end of the year.
The price of the fuel has jumped by tens of percentage points since the ministry stopped exercising full price control, MKs were informed during the committee's meeting Tuesday.
"The Trajtenberg report [for social and economic change] stated that removing price control over diesel fuel led to price increases that cost the public an estimated NIS 400 million a year," said Shama-Hacohen. The government is dragging its heels when it comes to the matter, despite the need for reform, he said. "If we don't get clear answers from the government, there will be repercussions."
The National Infrastructure Ministry official responsible for fuel, Chen Bar Yosef, said the decision had been delayed because the gas companies hadn't given the ministry the data it demanded. He noted that the companies can be called in for hearings only after diesel is brought back under price control.
