A year and a half ago, a conflict arose between Ferrero Rocher importer Leiman Schlussel and supermarket chain Blue Square (Mega ). As a result, the supermarket pulled Leiman Schlussel's products from its shelves, including Ferrero Rocher, Kinder and Mentos. It took nearly a year for the sides to make peace and strike an agreement that would return the candies to the aisles. It might have been the resulting drop in sales that drove the importer to raise prices on its Ferrero Rocher chocolates by 5%.

Leiman Schlussel responded: "There are several reasons for the price differences across different countries: 1 ) The expense of producing kosher candies 2 ) differences in sales tax 3 ) transport costs 4 ) the need for chilled storage facilities in a hot country such as Israel 5 ) import duties 6 ) the relatively small quantities sold in the Israeli market, due to its size, which increases the transport costs per item accordingly."
