For Israel’s defense, the next jet is just a wink away
The Israeli government conceals its actual defense spending by agreeing on a budget every year, only to allocate billions of extra shekels later.
In 2011, the Bank of Israel examined the relationship between the defense budget approved by the government and the Knesset at the start of the year and the actual defense budget at end of the year. The bank found there was no connection between them. Every year for the past eight years, the actual budget has been many billions of shekels higher than the one approved at the outset.
