Despite resigning, Gabbai, Shani to lead competition c'tee
Prime Minister's Office Director General Eyal Gabbai and Finance Ministry Director General Haim Shani will continue heading the government committee evaluating concentration in the Israeli economy until it submits is final recommendations, they told Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz.
Both Gabbai and Shani are resigning from their government posts.
Their resignations had raised speculation about who could fill their place in the committee, many of whose members have announced their resignations from their government posts.
Netanyahu set up the committee in October to determine how to increase competition in the economy. When Shani and Gabbai said they would be stepping down, Netanyahu asked the committee to submit its interim recommendations earlier than scheduled, in early September as opposed to mid-September.
The economic concentration committee is expected to remain independent from the committee headed by Prof. Manuel Trajtenberg, which was appointed to address the problems facing the middle class and examine the tent protesters' demands.
