Defying predictions, consumer price index falls 0.2%
Analysts believe the Bank of Israel will leave the interest rate for December unchanged in December, at 2.0%, partly in consideration of the recent CPI declines.
The consumer price index for October fell 0.2%, following a pattern of several months but confounding analysts' expectations. The figures, released on Thursday by the Central Bureau of Statistics, surprised economists who predicted the CPI would be flat or or rise by up to 0.2%.
