Your Zionist dream (Liberal or otherwise) was always and continues to be a nightmare for an entire nation of boys and girls who have grown up and had grand children of their own by now; They still pinch themselves and realize that they have indeed lost everything. Your glorious dream is a decades-old tragedy for an entire people. You can go on kidding yourself with nostalgic notions of how it once was, but your Zionist project was rotten and immoral from the start. We wake up everyday and find ourselves trapped in your silly dream; Please spare us your self-appeasing bouts of humanitarianism...

But it always was about scorching olive trees and stealing land wasn't it. There never was a land without people for people without a land - Israel could only come into being upon the ruins of existing Palestinian villages. Early Zionists did not pretend that they were not forcing the Palestinians off their land and fully understood that they needed to treat them like dogs so they would voluntarily leave - or so they thought. Young girls in Canada may have been dancing with the romance of it all, but those who did the dispossessing and the killing knew what they were about and understood the Palestinian reaction. After all wasn't Barak who, when asked what he would have done if he had been Palesinian said that he would have joined a terrorist group. But I guess as a Liberal Zionist you can only see that the present is not quite right and the past was a glorious time of grit and courage - not a time of brutality and injustice to the non-Jews residing on the land you coveted for your own. As for that Palestinian villager who says he will live and die on this land - yes he will and quite possibly by IDF violence and certainly as a person without the protection and rights of a citizen of a sovereign state.
