The winner of the Israeli election: democracy

It's interesting to ask what is going on apart from selfishness, which is the real rock bottom of the human condition, as per selfish gene theory. People think of their own needs first and then of others especially if you cram them in like bees in a bottle and ambition and competition take over. People talk about the so called 'Poverty Trap', but I'm beginning to think that opting into poverty is a way out of the other trap - the rat race. Cynicism aside it is good to see the middle ground being empowered and imagining that the settlements must be stopped and rationalised even if that is merely because their ongoing expansion is making the twin state solution impossible. Many would consider it already impossible - including yours truly - and that we need now consider a bifurcated or shared Arab-Israeli state with a Gazan Arab Emirate alongside. So did the upper echelon see the writing on the wall and decide to pull back in order to preserve the Jewish hegemony of the State of Israel or have the middle ground within Israel opted to focus on the development of a civil society first - neither of which is a bad thing? I wonder what the Palestinian response will be: to push it's own civil agenda in the hope that at some point civil sense will take over and merge the various possibilities into one? What democrascy? Israelis are lied to by a man like Lapid, posing as an opponanat of Netanyahu, and as soon as the elections are over, he immediately runs towards Netanyahu to help him form the next government, knowing that Netanyahu is a criminal who is on the path of dragging Israel into a dissaster. That is not democracy, but pure deceit that was planned all along by Lapid and Netanyahu.

As a volunteer observer i sat at one of the pooling booth from 7-3. I must admit it, as a secular Jew, it was enjoyable, nice atmosphere until it came time for me to vote. Those working at the polls have the right to vote and I took the opportunity after 6 hours. When I took the opportunity I saw that all 32 voting slips had now been replaced by 'Gimmel' the ultra orthodox hasidic party. Someone had entered to vote and while voting simply took a stack of 'Gimmel' votes and placed them over the other 31 parties running including Shaas. We immediately closed the station, alerted the authorities, wrote the incident down in the protocol and reopened after we restored the order as it had been at 7 AM. What angered me/us is that none, none of those voting brought this fraud to our attention as if there was only party to vote for in the Jewish Qtr. This perhaps is the difference between this segment of society and the rest of Israel, in that we care about others but in the ultra-orthodox neighborhoods no one else exists but they themselves. A dad lesson in democracy amongst the hasadic Jews.

If Israel is a true democracy, can you ever envision an Arab becoming its Prime Minister? Like Mr. Obama, the first Afro-American to be our president in US? Why should a Jew born in Los Angeles have more rights than an Arab born in Israel, an Arab who speaks Hebrew, paid his taxes and knows the country well?

Bibi and his motly crew took a hammering yet there are still enough Israelis who think that 'bomb first then ask questions later' and 'settlements are legal if we have the bigger military presence' are still a priority for Israel. until this rhetoric and frankly illegal stance is addressed, hopefully with a centre left group then I will wait with baited breath for a modified common (sense) stance to be applied. No more bluffing and blustering. PS Israel needs to re-earn the respect of the international community before it can be listened to again so these political groups better get their act together and fast!
