When exclusion of women hits the basketball court

In a country where religious and secular children are divided into separate schools, sport should be a unifying experience. That's not what happened in my backyard.

The troubling sexualization of little girls was symbolized last year by Na’ama Margolese in Beit Shemesh who was terrorized by Haredim protesting the "provocative" presence of her girls' elementary school near their neighborhood.

Israeli societal model not sustainable long-term

One by one, one incident at a time, the difference between haredi values and non-haredi values become more and more evident. Wether it be this instance where the prohibition of male-female contact prevented a basketball game, to the attack by a haredi male on a young girl because her dress was not sufficiently modest, to the prohibition of haredi males from hearing a women sing, and other misogynistic actions that marginalize women, the societal norms in Israel are flawed, and not sustainable. Israel is in peril long-term because of this issue.
