Thanksgiving: A truly American holiday for Jews and Gentiles alike
One of American Jewry's oldest family, the Guggenheims, found Thanksgiving was the most important holiday, even more than the Jewish holidays.
Phineas Nunes Cardozo and his wife Sophie Isaacs Cardozo emigrated to the U.S. from England in 1823. They were Sephardi Jews who belonged to Bevis Marks in London, the oldest synagogue in the United Kingdom, which was affiliated with the Spanish and Portuguese Jewish community.
Vered Guttman is a caterer and a food writer based in Washington DC.
