The Color of Water: A Fountain of Hope in the Heart of Teddy’s Jerusalem

A new park named for the late Jerusalem mayor, not far from the Old City’s Jaffa Gate, will have a state-of-the-art musical fountain where water does not spout so much as sashay and swing.

When Teddy Kollek looked south from his office window during his years as mayor of Jerusalem, he saw this tract of territory – a largely neglected and sorry-looking spot. The land across from the Old City’s Jaffa Gate alternated between rundown and abandoned buildings, haphazard parking lots, and bit of undeveloped brush along the slopes in between.
