Analysis
Why did Israel attack Syria now, and why did the Syrians admit it?
The alleged Israeli attack came one day after an Iranian announcement that Tehran will view any attack on Syrian territory as an attack against Iran itself.

The unbearable ease of the kidnapping
Hezbollah released a video of the 2006 kidnapping of IDF reservists Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev that launched the second Lebanon war. Has Israel learned the appropriate lessons from the Second Lebanon War?

Former top IDF officials worry that Netanyahu is bent on an Iran strike
ANALYSIS: It looks like Netanyahu and Barak are set on an Iran strike, but some of Israel's former defense top brass agree that, right now, an attack would do more harm than good.

The aftermath of the Bulgaria attack.
In wake of Bulgaria bombing, Israel must prepare to face more Iranian attacks
This is not the first time we've heard talk about 'a moment of truth' with respect to an Israeli decision to attack Iran. Eventually, however, that moment will arrive. In the meantime, Tehran is doing all it can to hurt Israel, as witnessed in Bulgaria this week.

Given recent setbacks, Israel believes Assad's regime cannot survive for long

About this blog
Since my last post with Avi Issacharoff in the MESS Report blog last year, the Middle East has changed immensely. In the wake of the Arab Spring, a new political reality has emerged in the region, one that affects each country individually and has enormous implications on Israel, as well. The two of us have been covering the Middle East, with a focus on politics and security, for more than a decade. Wars have hit, terrorists have struck, peace initiatives have been signed (and often forgotten) and governments have changed hands. The Middle East is a volatile region. To narrow analysis down to one viewpoint is impossible, but to try to find a balance in perspectives is, no matter how often opinions seems to contradict. In this blog, I aim to engage this complex region on a broader scope and to give our readers a balanced and credible picture of the reality in this region. This blog will bring you in-depth analysis, as well as our own personal observations about the region that we live in.

Black trailblazers Obama and beauty queen Aynaw to talk about ... Pollard?
Have Israeli leaders co-opted the country's beauty queen to raise the issue of Jonathan Pollard with President Obama because she is Ethiopian? Do they think Obama will reconsider Pollard just because another black person asks him to?
