Gaza escalation doesn't necessarily means Israel is headed for war

And Vittorio Antonio's use of jingoistic cliches sounds like the language of war.

This article seems remarkably blind to the emotional heat of lethal combat, especially given the messianic beliefs of the combatants leaders, on both sides. "Analyzing the interests of the two sides" assumes they are both acting rationally, and can accurately calculate the likely reaction from their enemy to any particular action. This strikes me as incredibly naive, under the circumstances. The whole rationale revolves around the balance of terror, but what if Palestinian militants have no fear of dying as martyrs, but are only fulfilled by fighting back? The militants of the Warsaw ghetto would understand. They too were completely outgunned but they decided it was better to die fighting than to surrender to an enemy they hated, and didn't trust, and for good reason!

The blockade of Gaza is war. the unrelenting occupation of the West Bank is war; the targeted assassinations is war; oppression of the occupied is war; Cast Lead, and the present operations is war. Israel has never sought peace because peace would be an obstruction to Israel's objective: the complete annexation of the occupied territories.
