Veteran pitcher Derek Lowe was traded to the Cleveland Indians from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for cash considerations and minor league pitcher Chris Jones, the MLB teams said yesterday. The 38-year-old Lowe, who has a career record of 166-146, with 85 saves and a 3.94 earned run average, will be returning to the American League for the first time since 2004. A two-time All-Star who helped the Boston Red Sox win the World Series in 2004, Lowe has also played for the Seattle Mariners and Los Angeles Dodgers in a glittering Major League Baseball career that began in 1997. One of just three pitchers with more than 160 wins and 80 saves in the majors, Lowe went a disappointing 9-17 for the Braves last season.
