Yossi Mizrahi is to return as head coach of Ashdod SC, following the resignation yesterday of Alon Hazan.
Mizrahi, who is currently coach of Cypriot First Division team Limassol, has agreed a three-year contract with Ashdod owner Jackie Ben-Zaken - although sources close to the club say that Mizrahi and Ben-Zaken agreed on the contract even before Hazan submitted his resignation yesterday.
Hazan's resignation did not come as a surprise to anyone. Several months ago he asked several times to be relieved of his duties but was told that he could not leave in the middle of the season.
At the same time, Ashdod bosses sent out feelers to Mizrahi, who agreed to rejoin the club he coached four years ago at the end of the current season, when his contract in Cyprus expires.
Hazan and Ben-Zaken met yesterday at the latter's home in Ashdod and tried to analyze the club's current predicament. Hazan described the problems he is experiencing with the players, who he accused of lacking motivation. Ben-Zaken told the coach he was doing everything he could to turn things around, but Hazan was unmoved and his resignation was finally accepted.
