Delays in air travel leaving Israel are expected due to heavy traffic above Cyprus, airline company officials told Haaretz. Officials said delays occurred mostly on Thursday afternoons and lasted up to an hour and a half. The sources added that the delays were caused by air flight controllers in Larnaca. "The issue is not part of the responsibility of the Israel Aviation Authority," an IAA official said.
Aviation companies said that the problem needs to be solved regardless of whether it is caused in Tel Aviv or in Cyprus. The IAA said it will start talks with representatives from Eurocontrol, the European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation, over solving the congestion problem. They added that heavy air traffic in the region is expected due to the summer holidays.
