Actor and director Assi Dayan is expected to be indicted this morning on charges of beating his girlfriend and threatening to "slaughter" her at knifepoint.
Police will decide today whether to request a remand extension at the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court.
The girlfriend, a 34-year-old Kiryat Ono resident, told police that Dayan, 64, had beaten her four times over the past several months.
Police arrested Dayan at his apartment Saturday night after his girlfriend called them to report the violence. However, when police arrived, Dayan "actually fell asleep while mumbling," a police officer said.
While being questioned by police, Dayan said he felt ill, apparently because of medication he took shortly before police arrived. A doctor at Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer, where Dayan was taken for treatment, told Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court Judge Sigal Ressler-Zakai that he was conscious but sleepy and not fully coherent.
The doctor said Dayan was at risk of a heart attack if he was brought before a judge in his condition.
Ressler-Zakai extended the remand in his absence, saying Dayan had admitted to having beaten his girlfriend.
